Call for Art for members of the Katonah Museum Artists' Association

Entries open from March 2, 2019 to April 2, 2019

Juried exhibition at the Fine Arts Gallery of Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York. Show dates: May 15 to June, 2019

Theme: Boundaries 

“Geographical, political, personal, gender-related, restricting, protecting, frightening, enticing, behavioral, societal, cultural—boundaries surround us and challenge us. What boundaries make you feel comfortable? What boundaries do you object to? What are the boundaries you have broken through? The history of art and of mankind evolves around the establishment and destruction of boundaries. The subject has been brought to light again in the current political discourse and we will take a look at it through an artistic frame of reference in this exhibit.”

Juror:  Natasha Karpinskaia 

Natasha Karpinskaia is a Russian-born artist, art historian, and educator. She has had numerous solo and group shows both nationally and internationally. Her works are in many private and some corporate collections in the U.S. and Europe. She was a recipient of a prestigious grant from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts. She has been teaching courses in abstract painting, mixed media, printmaking, and art history at the Silvermine Guild of Art, Pyramid Atlantic in Washington, D.C., and other art centers. She was a professor of art history at the New York Academy of Art. She had also worked as a curator at the Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, one of the largest museum of Russian art. She received her PhD (ABD) in American art from Columbia University in New York, M.A. from the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Russia, and M.A. from the University of Linguistics in Moscow, Russia.


ENTRY AND SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: 

Incomplete entries will not be processed.

Submitting artists must be current members of the Katonah Museum Artists' Association except for WCC students only. WCC students will only need to pay the $35-50 submission fee outlined in the prospectus. Other artists submitting must be KMAA members. Payment of membership fee must be done through the Katonah Museum of Art at 914-232-9555 or katonahmuseum.org. Artists may submit 3-6 works for $35-50 payable to Submittable on this form. Fee is not refundable. $35 for 3 works, $40 for 4, $45 for 5, $50 for 6. All media are welcome. Wall art must be no larger than 60" in any direction including frame, must be clean, wired, ready to hang. Hanging sculpture must be no larger than 60" in any direction and weigh less than 15 pounds. Free standing sculpture is limited to a 4' square footprint (2' x 2') and 40 pounds maximum. Pedestals are available. 10% donation to the Katonah Museum of Art for any work sold. All work must remain in the show as installed for the duration of the show. Images of work may be used for publicity purposes.  Entries will be handled with all possible care, but artists submitting work agree to hold harmless the Katonah Museum Artists' Association, the Katonah Museum of Art, and Westchester Community College and their agents, servants, and employees, from any claim of damage or theft that might arise from any cause whatsoever. Artists should arrange for proper insurance coverage for their work.

Selection Notifications by: April 12 at 11:59 pm, end of day

Drop off selected works: Sunday May 12

Opening Reception: Saturday March 18 from 1 to 3 pm

Exhibition dates: May 15 to June 14

Pick up: Saturday June 15

Drop off and pick up of work must be done in person. NO SHIPPED WORK ACCEPTED. By submitting your work you agree to deliver and pick up on these dates. DO NOT SUBMIT if you cannot adhere to this schedule. No refunds will be issued. It is a requirement of entry to the exhibition that all of the conditions stated above be understood and agreed to by virtue of the artist submitting work via this entry form.
